Developed by Yakima Chief Ranches and released in 2000, Simcoe® YCR 14 cv. is known for its
brewing versatility and unique aroma characteristics. It continues to rise in popularity becoming one
of the top ten varieties in the craft and home brewing industries. Simcoe is a dual-purpose hop with fruity aromas of passionfruit and grapefruit as well as earthy and pine notes.

Simcoe is one of the most popular hops among US craft and home brewers and has been steadily growing in popularity across Europe for the past decade. Simcoe is known for its diversity and unique complexity along with a smooth bitterness due to its high alpha acid content and extremely low co-humulone content.

This hop variety is often associated with IPAs, their stronger cousin double IPAs, and their newer siblings India Black Ale and India Red Ale. Simcoe can also work wonders in a number of other beer styles and is very often used in conjunction with Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, and Citra hop varieties.

Due to the high alpha levels and low Cohumulone levels, this hop has become a very good bittering hop. Alongside this, the fruity and slightly earthy aroma helps this hop to be used as a dual-purpose hop.
